Nice Netbook!! I bought this Netbook for my Husband for Christmas and he loves it, I was skeptical at first because of the smaller key board for a mans larger hands but he has gotten use to it and uses it everyday with no problems...it is so convenient for on the go computer needs. the battery life is great, we usually get about 7hrs out of it and with the 1G and 250 hard drive it is perfect for what we use it for... it is also a slick looking computer. Great Netbook I looked at many Netbooks. The long battery life and the 250 GB Hard Drive were the selling points on this item. I liked getting Windows 7 Starter also. Don't see a need to upgrade to a full version on a netbook. I'm very happy with it so far and have had no problems. I upgraded to 2 GB of Ram just to be sure the speed would be there. Not a substitute for a Desktop or Laptop, but with an almost full size keyboard it's very portable and great for surfing the web. Add Ubuntu NR and you have a solid performer I bought this for my wife, who is a non-techie and she really likes it. I replaced the Win7 starter with Ubuntu Netbook Remix. There are a couple glitches that can be worked around and are fixed for the next Ubuntu release. It is surprisingly speedy for a netbook. We get around 5 or 6 hours of battery life. The unit feels solid. My only tiny gripes are that the hinge is very stiff, so opening the laptop takes some effort. and the glossy finish does collect fingerprints. It's size is very convenient. I tend to steal it from my wife and take it places to do troubleshooting for friends. I have had no difficulty connecting to any wireless network. As long as you use this for netbook type tasks, you will likely be pleased with this computer. Laptop replacement This is a great netbook---I think the best on the market at this time...I have used it to when on the road as it is so much more convenient to carry around than a laptop...The internet connectivity is flawless..I purchased the Asus dvd burner and together they work better than any year old laptop..I don't like the fact that the Windows 7 starter pack and not the full version is included; but ,I guess if you want to upgrade for 75$ ,it would be effortless. The battery life works as advertised..Highly recommend.. Reliable, Dependable and a good solid buy I purchased the 1000HE about 6 months ago and loved it for the intended purpose. I bought this 1005HA for my wife. We also have a desktop at the house and we both have nice high end laptops that we use daily. No Dells in my house - junk. We use these mini laptops when we are seriously on the go and need to travel light and for quick internet reference. I have had the 1000HE loaded with XP crash/lock about 3 times while I was upgrading PC cards and playing with thumb drives. I also use my 1000HE at work. I'm an Electronic Tech and I use the 1000HE every day loaded hierarchical database for troubleshooting and fault correction. It gets banged around quite a bit. The 1005HA would do just as well. The new 1005HA with Windows 7 starter has not crashed or locked at all. I am going to have Win 7 loaded on my 1000HE. My wife loves the 1005HA mini laptop. She's a director for a large organization and on the go. I researched mini laps about 3 months before deciding on the ASUS. When I used to build computers I used only ASUS motherboards. For those of you considering a new ipad for a light on the go computer - forget it. The ipad is way over priced with 3G service charges and nothing more than a large ipod touch - period. Get the ASUS mini. Be advised that you won't find blistering speeds with these mini's but they work fine for general work. The Atom N280 processer is the one to have with these units. Get 2 Gigs of compatible RAM at 667 or faster speed. You will need to get a decent case for it too. We use the TARGUS SPORT NETBOOK CASE for maximum protection. The neoprene cases are worthless as well as the one that comes with it except for scratch protection. For banging around and impacts the Targus is the way to go. I have found that the advertised battery life of 9.5 hrs if you don't use anything but a word processor. In reality, expect 6-8 hours which is still very, very good. I do wish the processor was just a bit faster but it is what it is and it works for general computing. Keyboard: Not bad at all. I thought it would be difficult going to the mini but it's almost full size. Webcam: Lacks the clarity of a higher quality built in or stand alone webcams. You will need more ambient light around you for this webcam to work good but come on, this is a mini and it works out good. I chose the Hard Drive models because I'm going to give the new solid state drives a few more years to beef them up. I can get a thumb drive with as much flash memory as these. For now, HD is fine, just back up to jump drives or Carbonite. We have never used the additional storage provided by ASUS so I can't comment on that. Boot time is remarkably fast so you are up and running in no time. You will find the MS OFFICE substitutes ( Star Office and Open Office ) work just fine for what most people and students are doing. We also use Mozilla Thunderbird as our email client to tap into our email accounts instead of purchasing another version of MS OUTLOOK. If I had a child in high school or college this is what I'd get them. It's cheap and all they need for high school or college work. If they want to play multimedia games and have a computer to keep up with the kids that have been ruined and spoiled by their parents then they can get a job and buy their own. Yes, we can afford to get them anything they want but we are old school and all of our children have turned out to be very successful and have a sense of responsibility and respect that most kids and young adults don't have these days. Back to the ASUS Eee PC. A good solid buy in these models and you can't beat the ASUS quality. There is a lot of junk out there in mini laps so if you do your home work you will find the ASUS 1005HA a good mini lap investment. I gave it 4 stars because it lacks the crunching processing speed that I'm used to. Otherwise, it's a 5 star mini laptop. Rating: 4 (William S.
