LeapFrog Text and Learn customer reviews:
A Good Toy for Techie-Wannabe Toddlers
My son likes this a lot. It makes him giggle, and keeps him amused for 20 minutes or so at a time. It would make a great travel toy. LeapFrog rarely lets me down, and this toy is no exception. Rating: (M. Sanders, 2010-02-05) Product reviewed: LeapFrog Text and Learn
Educational, durable, and fun
My 2 year old niece isn't able to fully understand everything this toy can do, but she is learning her ABCs and having fun along the way. This is a tough toy that has been dropped and beat up a bit (not on purpose, but toddlers can be rough on things) and it still keeps going. Rating: (C. R. Toddler learnt his ABCs by himself!
I purchased this toy to keep my then 16month old son occupied on the long flight home. While he found it interesting, his attention span was not long enough to really benefit from using the toy. 3 months later he re-discovered the toy and it easily kept him amused on long car rides or during play time in the day. After a few weeks we realized that he had begun learning his ABCs from using the toy! He would repeatedly press one of the letters on the keypad, watch the animation, and repeat the name of the letter. Then he started to identify the same letters everywhere he went! While driving he would look out the window and say the letters he would see on store signs and other cars. In shops and restaurants he would identify them on posters and products. We did not think to start teaching ABCs so young but he did it on his own and now loves to discover the alphabet in the world around him. Just okay - Leapster is a better investment...
I got this for my 3 year old but honestly, it doesn't capture her attention for very long. There are only 2 games and they are so very basic. Her sister got a Leapster 2 for Christmas and she got this but I'm now wishing I would have gotten her a Leapster too as she plays her sisters ALL the time! On the few times she does pick this up, it's only for a few minutes and then she goes to her sisters Leapster. I love Leap Frog and am a big fan of their toys as we have a lot of them. This is probably my least favorite :( It's a cute idea but just not all that. I would recommend this for maybe a 2 year old instead. Rating: (B. Perfect for road trips!
What can I say? A two day long road trip from San Francisco to San Diego and this product was a life saver. It certainly kept my 3 year old entertained. There's plenty of content to keep him busy and he really enjoys the Scout puppy character. Surprisingly, I didn't find the audio annoying. Now that we're home, he carries this in his backpack for every car trip. Buy one. Who knows you may even be able to listen to your own music on your next drive!
