My equipment is still alive thanks to Panamax This is a nice sized unit to protect a computer on dialup or wired ethernet. There is a pair of 8 pin phone/ethernet jacks wired to protect either a phone line or a wired network connection (not both). It would work for DSL, too, but you'd probably need more that 4 outlets. The Panamax "bubble of protection" requires that _everything_ connected to your computer be protected. While I haven't been hit by lightning since I added this particular unit, I did have a strike last year that was 20 or 30 feet outside my window. It was so strong that it magnetized my CRT (the screen image looked "psychedelic" until I degaussed it) and smoked my standby generator and transfer switch. All the computers, network gear, TVs, DVRs, etc. were protected by Panamax units, including the network and phone connections, and I have Panamax whole-house protection in my breaker panel. Aside from the unprotected generator, everything was fine. When my daughter got a computer this year and I realized that thunderstorm season was approaching, I knew I needed another Panamax unit for her. This one was the perfect fit. Rating: 5 (M.
