Christmas Present
My son had this game before, but played it so much, it wore out. He requested it for Christmas and found it at Amazon.com. He was thrilled! Thanks again! Rating: (StayAtHomeMom, 2010-02-01) Product reviewed: Kingdom Hearts II
THE CONTROLS ARE SO STUPID!!!!!!
I have played the first and I have to say that this the worst game ever. The combat system from the first ha been replaced by a mediocre dance that's supposed to resemble combat and the team attacks are such a joke I almost fell over laughing. The costume of Sora has also been changed which I found very aggravating. As for the story you are basically taken from the straightforward story of Kingdom Hearts and thrown into a jumbled mess of unanswered questions and poorly oriented story. You basically start out as some guy named Demyx and then become Sora! What's up with that!!! I hate this game, get Kingdom Hear instead it much better. Rating: (E. A marketing tactic that succeeds very well
NOTE: The statements made here are not facts. They are only opinions, so I might sound a bit biased. We all know that Squaresoft is known for its Final Fantasy games. And we all know that Disney is known for its classic 2D animated films and TV shows. So what happens when these two corporations collide? You get the Kingdom Hearts series. Almost everybody knows about this game, even if you're not a fan of Disney or Squaresoft. It's a mix of Disney and Anime. It's one of the greatest marketing tactics ever made. It's bound to make a huge profit. You know, a financial phenomenon. But here's the thing: I think there's a very good reason why these video games are selling. Like I said, mixing Disney and Squaresoft sounds like a way to add some more financial success for these two well-known companies since we all love Disney and Final Fantasy so much. Well, I can tell you that both have fairly succeeded in creating this popular franchise. Kingdom Hearts II is an extraordinarily addictive video game that surpasses the previous KH games with its darker tone and more complex storyline. The plot, while it IS fascinating, is pretty unoriginal. But we don't care much about the story, do we? This is a video game, and we're here not to analyze the story, but to have fun. The controls and movements in this game are an improvement over the original, while the overall gameplay is a real pleasure. Oh, and I shouldn't leave out my comments on the graphics: they are so beautiful to look at. Computer animation really IS improving in the game industry. Unfortunately, I don't find this to be an excellent video game. It has some great qualities to it, but there are flaws as well, at least in my own opinion. First of all, the Disney and Final Fantasy characters are now a bit underused. Most of them played some important parts in the original and in Chain of Memories, but here, they are now minor characters. I like the main characters (Sora, Kairi, Roxas, etc.) but I'm starting to question their designs. Seriously, the not only do the heroes and the members of Organization XIII look too attractive, but they need to tone down their hairstyles and clothing. It's really over-the-top. Another problem with this game is the lack of a certain opportunity that these two companies could have seized. No offense, but many of these non-Disney characters look either white or Japanese. I mean, think about it. Disney and Squaresoft are pretty much well-known all around the world. The creators could have pushed the envelope a little more by creating maybe some Latino, African-American, Asian-Indian or maybe even Eastern-European human characters (while avoiding stereotypes, of course.) We could have had some very distinctive protagonists who go on a Disney/Squaresoft adventure on their own. But my biggest problem with this game (and the entire KH series) is the unequal balance between Disney and Anime. To me, Disney doesn't seem to go well with Anime (a genre in which I am not a fan of). Sure, it sounds like a good idea, but it's really strange to see characters from Mulan and Beauty and the Beast interact with Sora, Riku, and others. It's like these two genres just collided with each other for no reason whatsoever. Again, I like the main protagonists, but maybe a bit more diversity could have made it a bit better. Oh, and by the way, for those of you who have a fascination with this Roxas/Axel pairing.....I mean, really?.....I'm sorry, but it sounds like a topic for Dateline's "To Catch a Predator"..... In the end, I could have given Kingdom Hearts II a C+ for a brilliant marketing tactic, awkward character designs and some missed opportunities. But given the beautiful graphics and admirable gameplay, I'll give this a B-. It is still a very good game and I'd recommend it for both Squaresoft and Disney fans. Rating: (Eric S.
