I was not disappointed despite the game being 2-3 years older then part two. Great game with great play mechanics. A Good but not Great Action Title As a big fan of action/adventure games Uncharted is definitely my cup of tea. Fast paced action sequences, cinematic and dramatic scripted events and great atmosphere. The characters also have tons of personality and the voice acting is great. I love the feel of exploring an South American Jungle and historic abandonded ruins. The game does a great job of this. Where the game started losing me was with the combat. Overall the gameplay mechanics are great. Platforming is a significant part of the gameplay, exposing Naughty Dogs platforming roots as well as adding a great gameplay element that you'll rarely find in action titles. The controls are perfectly suited to the style of gameplay, taking cover being a highly neccesary part of successfull combat. You'll constantly find yourself bombarded by waves of enemies. And that's part of the problem. There's very little variety in combat and in time it gets very reptitive. The feeling of been there done, done that washes over me after several battles. Hide behind cover, shoot. Hide behind cover, get shot. In my eyes the developers could have avoided this by breaking up these sequences with vehicle combat missions, driving missions, mixing up the type of combatants or adding boss battles. In the end the combat ends up feeling one dimensional and with a game with such a large focus on combat this can really detract from the experience. That being said overall I enjoyed myself a good deal and the game has plenty to offer for those looking for an imperfect but fun action/adventure game but be aware the game can start to drag after a while due to its reptitive gameplay and lack of variety. Great Game! "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" is a fun game with a great story. I recommend getting this game before buying "Uncharted 2", because it does a good job in introducing all of the characters (many of whom appear in the second game). Well worth the buy! Good but not great This game looks and plays great, but the majority of the game all takes place in the same jungle-esque areas with little variety. There are no boss battles in the game, and it lasts about 10-12 hours. Definitely recommended for any fan of third person shooters.
