"This shit would be really interesting if we weren't in the middle of it."--Barack Obama, September 2008

In 2008, the presidential election became blockbuster entertainment. Everyone was watching as the race for the White House unfolded like something from the realm of fiction. The meteoric rise and historic triumph of Barack Obama.... The shocking fall of the House of Clinton - and the improbable resurrection of Hillary as Obama's partner and America's face to the world.... The mercurial performance of John McCain and the mesmerizing emergence of Sarah Palin.
But despite the wall-to-wall media coverage of this spellbinding drama, remarkably little of the real story behind the headlines has yet been told.

In Game Change, John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, two of the country's leading political reporters, use their unrivaled access to pull back the curtain on the Obama, Clinton, McCain, and Palin campaigns. How did Obama convince himself that, despite the thinness of his résumé, he could somehow beat the odds to become the nation's first African-American president? How did the tumultuous relationship between the Clintons shape - and warp - Hillary's supposedly unstoppable bid? What was behind her husband's furious outbursts and devastating political miscalculations? Why did McCain make the novice governor of Alaska his running mate? And was Palin merely painfully out of her depth - or troubled in more serious ways?

Game Change answers those questions and more, laying bare the secret history of the 2008 campaign. This is a reportorial tour de force that reads like a fast-paced novel.

Great book I've just finished listening to this very entertaining and informative book, great stuff. Now I'd like to find a similar one on the 2000 race, anyone has a book they can recommend? Rating: 5 (Jan Karlsson, 2010-03-10)

Not bad but not great. A little too pro Obama and demecrat. Rating: 3 (Fidedog, 2010-03-03)

Another book about Obama? The man can't say "good morning" without a TelePrompTer and we learn here that's he's a talking head....shocka. For all you Dear Learder Mabama fans. I was hope both parties lost the last election, their both Progressives! Rating: 1 (Arrcain, 2010-03-01)

Good listen Very nice listen (read). Not all the way through it but I'm definitely learning some things about how elections really work behind the scenes. Rating: 4 (Field ranger1, 2010-02-28)

I can't take it All this book communicates is that all candidates spend the entire election trying to understand what the public wants. As we can see from Obama's performance is that after the pollsters figured out what he should say, he said it without any intent to actually do what he said Rating: 1 (Confused and bored, 2010-02-16)

Excellent Fantastic read. Rating: 5 (realdieu, 2010-02-15)

A MUST READ for political and history buffs... This was a well written, engaging and entertaining look at the 2008 Presidential Primaries & General Election. Any (audio)book that generates so much press and controversy is normally worth the time no matter what end of the political spectrum you lean towards. This book was much more even handed than the reports had me believing. There are sides Sen. McCain, Sen. Lieberman, V.P. Biden, Mrs. Obama and especially Sec. Clinton that are rarely mentioned. Former Gov. Palin was not bashed the way some reviews and pundits made it seem she was. The authors seem to have their facts straight and from reliable sources. Since it's publication Former Sen. Edwards has admitted to much of what is said here, as has Sen. Reid and V.P. Biden. Unlike many political "behind the scenes" books that are followed by a string of denials by those mentioned there have been nearly no denials of events presented here by the people involved (other than those by Sarah Palin). The Republican Primary and McCain/Palin Campaign takes backseat to the drama of the heated Obama vs. Clinton Primary, the overall strangeness of the Edwards Campaign and the Former Pres. Clinton's involvement (or lack of) in the Primary & Election. Anyone who enjoys politics & history will love this book. It's almost a shame there isn't a book this brilliant about every Presidential Election. This is one audiobook that IS WORTH THE PRICE. (I even went an bought the hard copy after hearing it.) Rating: 5 (JonDavid1210, 2010-02-13)

The country is broke I'm not talking about money... Let's face it, we as citizens either don't want to get involved or can't. We've developed a political system driven on self intrest instead of self preservation. The people in the book are morons driven by self, not country. Obama, McCain and the lot are more intrested in what's good for their cause, not ours. Rating: 5 (Mjones34406, 2010-01-28)

Facinating I found this book to be a facinating look behind the scenes of the dramatic contest that was the last presidential election. The detailed account provides a great deal of colorful insight into the varrious contestants as the election worked its course. Rating: 5 (mahowa, 2010-01-27)

Entertaining. Yes, this is all very entertaining, but so are the tabloids. I'm sure there is a good deal of truth sprinkled within the pages and stories, but books like this need to be taken with a grain of salt. Rating: 3 (MM38866, 2010-01-24)
