Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes customer reviews:
Fun, addictive game
As an intermediate gamer, I have to say that this game is really good. For those of you that play Halo 3 ODST and Modern Warfare 2 all day, this may seem slightly boring. But for a relaxing -yet challenging- game, this is a great buy! There are two difficulties on this game- Padawan and Master. I'm only on Padawan now, and it's not just a walk on the beach. It is easier than other games, however, because of the respawning system. Whenever you die, you simply respawn at the last checkpoint (there are no shortages of these). You do lose a significant amount of points, though, so you still have to be careful. The storyline includes one of the best features of the game. Altough you can play the whole game on single-player, you will always have a partner Jedi to assist you. By default, it will be AI controlled. But at any desired time, another player can join and play as the second Jedi! The other great part about the storyline is that you can play as a variety of different Star Wars heroes (therefore the title, "Republic Heroes"). The storyline is divided up into missions, each with its own heroes. For example, you start off as Anikan with Ashoka, next you have Obi-wan with Klo, and later perhaps Windu with another Jedi. Some missions also use clone troopers, which are quite fun to battle with. And after each completed mission, autosave will save your progress. If there are any downsides to this game, it would probably be the camera angles. They can be slightly frustrating at times, especially if you are trying to beat a mission with a partner. It is a third-person view, with no split-screen for two player mode. This is only a minor issue though, and does not take anything away from the overall quality of the game. In summary, this is a great game if you are a Star Wars fan and/or if you enjoy destroying hordes of droids with a lightsaber. The graphics are great for the PS2, and the gameplay is fun and addictive. Rating: (UG Y, 2009-12-23) Product reviewed: Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
What I Like About "Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes"
One thing I like about this product is that it has all the right colors for the "Galactic Republic's" blaster bolts and for the "Separatist's" blaster bolts. Unlike "Star Wars: Battlefronts I & II" of course! Rating: (Nathan Sauerborn, 2009-12-18) Product reviewed: Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
Disappointing game
This game could've been a lot better. The screen views are too small most of the time, and it's very uncomfortable to control the camera angles on two player mode. The game is one of the shortest of this series, and doesn't have a good replay value. Rating: (enrique alvarado, 2009-11-20) Product reviewed: Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
Glitches get in the way of what could've been a fun game.
After renting the PS3 version and finding it underwhelming in the graphics department, I figured I'd save some money and get the last gen version. That was a mistake. This version is not only waaay too low res compared to the average PS2 game much lower than even the Wii version. Not only that, but there were glitches galore. AI Jedi will constantly run into walls. Enemies will get stuck. After dealing with 4 levels of this, I gave up. This is probably the most inferior version of this game. Unless your a hardcore Clone Wars fan with only a PS2, I'd pass. Rating: (Jason Berry, 2009-11-03) Product reviewed: Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
Good, but not great, Star Wars fun.
Got this for the PS2 because its currently the only major console I own right now. For a PS2 Star Wars game, its actually quite fun. The gameplay tends to be a little clunky at first, since there are far too many moves you can make with far too few of the controls. As a result, you make quite a few unintended moves. However, once you get a knack for how they work, and you get a semblance of control, the fun factor increases. The game is based on the current Clone Wars cartoon, and falls in between seasons I and II. I'm about halfway thru it, and the story is typical Star Wars fare. The Separatists have developed a new superweapon, and the Jedi have to destroy it. However, the story enables you to play as a variety of characters. From the obligatory mainstays of Anakin and Obi-wan, to fan favorites like Mace Windu and Aayla Secura, and even varies it a little by letting you take control of some clone troopers. Going a step further, there are times when your character will take control of vehicles, such as the STAP and the one-man walkers. But, going back to the clunky control scheme, these areas are only mildly entertaining. Given the fact that you will die a lot, the designers thankfully have allowed for unlimited lives, and reaching the next checkpoint, where your character will respawn, is mostly fairly easy. The stages are well designed, though a bit repetitive, but with nicely rendered backgrounds there's plenty of planetary Star Wars scenery to enjoy. Collectible articfacts and orbs are scattered about the various stages giving an incentive for exploration. The graphics are nothing cutting edge, pretty standard for the PS2, especially for a game like this. It seems to me that the game was rushed into distribution, to capitalize on the release of the Season I DVDs and the new season premiere. However, there is fun to be had. It plays a lot like Jedi Power Battles, which, for me, was one of the best Jedi fighting games ever. To finally have another chance to play as Jedi and dispatch droid enemies with cool lightsaber action is enough incentive to play this game. To rent or buy will probably depend on your love of Star Wars or appreciation for top notch gaming. I have to say, this is mostly a game for Star Wars fans.
