The Altec Lansing iM600 sound system offers stereo sound from dual 2-inch neodymium drivers optimized for high-frequency extension (better highs, in other words). It offers more power and output than any other system in its class and, what's more, it features another Altec Lansing engineering innovation called the Expanded Sound Stage technology: ESS makes the speakers sound further apart than they really are, giving the user a heightened stereo effect. The iM600 also features a stereo FM radio and can double as a clock radio when plugged in to an electrical outlet (AC adapter included). It includes rechargeable Li-ion batteries and a wireless remote. And it syncs and charges all dockable iPod models. I bought these speakers to replace my old Altec Lansing speakers that I had for my old iPod. When I got the iPod Touch I wanted to make sure the connector size was right, and I just wanted to upgrade anyway. I am really glad I stuck with Altec Lansing. They seem to have great products, and the speakers have surprisingly good sound quality. Pros: -Excellent sound quality -Portable -Can use with devices other than an iPod (I use them when I want better speakers with my laptop, and they work great with that, too) -Radio Cons: -Sometimes I have a hard time getting my iPod to connect just right; once it's connected, it's fine, but it takes a little finagling sometimes -The battery charging light will come on at weird times when it should be fully charged. I haven't had problems with the battery running out or anything, but the indicator light does seem kind of finicky. -Sometimes it doesn't respond to the remote as well as I'd like it to This really is a great product, and I'm glad I bought it. None of the cons are really a big deal. I'm looking more for sound quality, versatility, and portability, and it has all of those. Once you get it set up you can just sit back and enjoy the music. Excellent!
1) Works with 5th Generation Nano (see my pictures). Just remember the insert that came with it. Not that it won't work without the insert, but it won't dock as well 2) Sound quality is good, not Bose, but good for $100. Furthermore depends on the quality of your songs in your iPod 3) Dock fits well, I moved it around with the iPod and no connection problems 4) Radio pickup is relatively good 5) Easy to figure out how to use, easy to program stations into remote 6) The ESS feature made the speakers more scratchy 7) Works with iPod alarm software 8) Can't use the iPod's radio while docked 9) Can attach other non-iPod mp3 players via cable which was not included 10) Black remote is tiny, so be prepared to spend hours searching for it 11) Can use functions of dock without remote, just not as efficiently 12) Does not charge iPod in battery mode. 13) Speakers can get relatively loud 14) Remote uses circle battery The few downsides to the product are outweighed by the quality. Loved it . . . at first
When I first got my im600 I was thrilled. It has great sound quality and stylish looks. Unfortunately I've had some problems it. I can only get the stereo to turn on with the remote. If the little remote gets lost then I won't be able to use it at all. The battery has never recharged so that was a real disappointment. I have to plug it in to use it and even then it won't charge my iPod. I've read a lot of good reviews about this product, so maybe I just got a lemon. Thought I share my experience just in case this wasn't a fluke. Rating: (A. Very nice unit for the money...
Very nice unit for the money... The music quality is extraordinary for a unit of its size. My only issue is the docking port is flimsy, and appears that it will break easily. But after 4 months of use it is still working great. So possibly I have under estimated its durability, but only the test of time will tell.
