Best for Cheap Home Theatre!! I did a lot of research on LED projectors before purchasing this one from Samsung. Not only is there a lack of LED projectors on the market, which is a shame, but companies like Mitsubishi discontinued a very good model for no apparent reason. For the money, this is the best projector out there! The LED life is rated between 20,000 and 50,000 hours, which will probably outlive the projector itself. I have mine set up in a medium-sized den. I purchased Klipsch THX computer speakers and have them around the room, which provides theatre-quality sound. I have the VGA cord ready to plug into a cheap Toshiba Laptop for viewing Netflix movies and television shows online. I have a DVD player hooked up and it is easy to toggle between the two ports with the Samsung remote. I also purchased the Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player. I can hook up an external drive to the WD media player and run movies, photos, and music through the projector system. The color quality is very good. I have my projector about six or seven feet from the wall behind a couch. It displays around 80 or 90-inches. The light is of high quality, and I can simply pull the curtains in the room during the day and watch any movie in near perfect viewing as any completely dark room would supply. My only qualm is the focal ring. It is very sensitive (which is probably good). I sometimes have to adjust it, especially if watching a lower-quality .AVI movie file. Other than that, I highly recommend this player! It is a small investment that will never need a $400 light bulb! I really dig this! I use this projector for demonstrations of software and such to small groups (usually 3 or 4 people) and it's perfect for that matter. What I like is: - Portability: It's small, and although the power supply is almost as big as the projector, this model comes with a handy carrying case, which is perfect for transporting the unit and all it's components. - Ease of use: Just plugged into the laptop and played (Vista Ultimate); no need to install any software. - Picture quality: You have to know what your getting off this trade, meaning less lumens but much more hours and no need to replace lamps. The brightness is enough to fit small group presentations (which is my company's bread and butter) although it may not be fit to a bigger audience. I would recommend to be aware of this and purchase another (Infocus, perhaps?) with more lumens to host large group presentations. - Form factor: It looks very professional on its glossy black color. True it can hold a fingerprint stain (or two) but it comes with a cloth for cleansing purposes. - Sound: It's not surround sound system, but I think it's a nice feature to have on this kind of device, although I don't plan to use it extensively for that matter. - Features: USB port is a plus for portable presentations that don't requiere a laptop; Remote Control works out-of-the-box and provides aid with presentations played from a USB device connected to the device. DVD connectors that makes it easy to just plug a DVD player and play a movie or so, without hassles. All that said, again I have to stress that it's meant to be used indoors for personal use or small groups (my take is no more than 10 people); If you need to hold larger audiences or use outdoors presentation you may want to consider other brighter (and bigger) options. Very bright, good video quality but lacks HDMI or 720p Resolution I got this portable projector for dorm use to watch movies,tv and for internet. The PJ came with a bag too! The 170 lumens image is bright enough even during daytime, just close the blinds/curtains. The image is 1000:1 contrast ratio, the colors are vivid. The built in speakers are like the ones in your laptop but it's good to have. I tried the composite/RCA and usb port in the back and they are good for watching divx or playing console games. What it needs to get that perfect score: 1)100 more lumens 2)HDMI w/ at least 720p resolution 3)less fan noise(not bad as it is but it's still louder than a laptop) Rating: 4 (R.
